Swift Current Mayor Jerrod Schafer (suit) poses with an Olympic Torch...and an unkempt member of the Swift Current media

Olympic Torch Arrives in Swift Current Tomorrow

Good morning Olympic Flamers!

I look like a newspaper reporter in the above picture. :)

Thanks to Steven Mah for snapping the pic of myself and His Excellence.

First off, Broncos had a HUGE win in Red Deer last night. Jon has the details for you.

...and because the fire that burns the Regina Pats seems to warm Swift Current Bronco fans...read about last night's game vs. Moose Jaw here.

Don't forget that the Kinsmen are collecting Christmas Trees today. I snapped this pic as they drove by my apartment this morning. If you look beyond the tree branch...you can see Kinsmen.

Tragedy in Kindersley yesterday. The "rink" is the heart of a small town. It's where the senior hockey teams play and where people meet for minor hockey practices. As the kids skate around the ice...coffee is drank, stories are exchanged and in summer...cabarets happen after slow pitch tournaments. Below is a pic of what happened yesterday in Kindersley to their "old rink".

Darren Dupont is the voice of the Kindersley Klippers SJHL team. A link to his blog is on the right. He has videos and official press releases on the fire. He's done an amazing job of covering the sad events in K-town. His blog is the one titled Above the Ice.

The Riders lost their GM and arguably their best player yesterday. In the wake of Eric Tillman's resignation, DE John Chick signed with the Indianapolis Colts. If you would like to work out like an NFL d-lineman, check out John Chick's training regiment here.

Rider slotback Jason Clermont had this to say on twitter: @jasonclermont Congrats to John Chick, good luck in Indy...but bring that signing bonus by for one more poker tourney before you leave!

I was able to learn of Eric Tillman's resignation as it happened while I was sitting at a news meeting for the Swift Current Olympic Torch celebration. You can sign up for Twitter by clicking the twitter feed on the right side of the page. For longtime visitors to this blog, I changed the feed to only show my most recent posts. No need for you to see what happened six months ago. Follow me for whimsical Swift Current observations, Saskatchewan news and some online buffoonery.

Yes...I'm a believer in Twitter. I used to think it as blogging for people who only like to type one sentence...but it's turned into a FANTASTIC news source.

-The Olympic Torch celebtrations start at the Stockade tomorrow afternoon. Performances happen at around 4pm with fun at the fairgrounds starting at around 2:30. Kids can make their own glowstick Olympic torches...among other things.

The flame arrives in Swift Current at 6pm. It will wind through the city parade style. Here is the route...

It will be something awesome to be a part of. A beauty of a day is in the forecast for tomorrow too.

It's a beautiful day in Swift Current today. See you at the Elmwood tobaggan run. Best sled hill in Saskatchewan.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the plug.

I have to correct you though. I am not the voice of the Klippers. I was the voice for two seasons but currently I am back at the U of S trying to finish up my Kineseology degree.

I love the Klippers and try to stay in contact with them as much as possible and do my best to provide what information I can because, well, there really isn't anywhere else to find it.

Thanks for the plug though but I don't want the folks at Golden West giving you a hard time for getting that wrong.

Nice Bigfoot style picture of the Kinsmen. Some of them do look like sasquatches.
