Happy New Year

First update of 2009. This should be a happier update, but I blog about my life, and things have been an adventure lately!

2008 was ended by me getting hit by a drunk.

Thanks to a number of people who stopped to make sure I was OK and the others who chased the guy down and provided the local RCMP with his plate number. He was from Regina and is a Pats fan. (Kidding!)

I owe Keener a favor for a ride at a key time while I was without the services of my Ford. 2009 is two days old and I'm right back where '08 ended...in your debt buddy.

There has been some other things going on in my life as well. I am in the process of moving out of my house right now. Just me moving out. Read between the lines as to what that means. Many people already know this, and I don't post this on the blog as a ploy for attention or for sympathy. I made my bed and now I have to sleep in it in a one bedroom apartment. I put this on the blog merely to ask you that if you do see me in public don't ask me "how I'm doing" while looking at me with pity. I'm fine, I have my own way of dealing with grief, and I've never been comfortable talking about my feelings...which may be how I got myself here in the first place.

No scandalous reason as to why...just two people realizing what is best for everyone who is involved. The Swift Current rumor mill will provide an interesting reason though, I'm sure.

But you don't care, you just wonder "how does this affect the blog"? If I can find a sweet deal on a laptop, expect more posts. I am actually inspired by a fellow blogger/broadcaster who has seemed to really improve the quality of his life in every way since going through something similar to what I am. Get Mike Lansberg on the phone, I'm on my way to the top!

Happy New Year!!! And with a new perspective I do plan on making it a very happy one for everyone in my life!

Blogging by Request...

It was nice to get your thoughts on what I could blog about...lets get to it!

Who are you again? Or who do you think you are might be the better question.

Just a guy with a handful of people who read his blog...that's all.

Remember the post about attracting female attention when walking into a bar? How about a sequel, except direct it to us married guys, and make it about keeping our wife happy!

Thanks for the love KJ. Glad to see you're keeping the Hat airwaves safe. My suggestion for married dudes who want to keep things spicy for the missus is DO SOMETHING UNPREDICTABLE. Have you never done the dishes??? DO THE DISHES. Do you never go out...TAKE HER OUT...and find the sitter. Wives work hard to keep the household running, so take some of her duties off her plate. They say the ultimate fantasy for a women is to be with two guys at the same time...one is cooking and one is cleaning...HA!

Now don't go doing everything and turning into an emasculated wimp. Manly men are attractive...just help out and take care of some of her duties. Don't brag about it after and look for approval. It's all about the little things.

Blog about Swift Current.

Right now Swift Current is growing...and it's going through puberty. It's awkward and hasn't grown into it's body yet. It has acne, and is clumsy.

The casino opening up has everyone worried about losing employees and has cost people human resources, we have a labor shortage, our traffic can't keep up with the growth (although I hear plans are FINALLY being made for the 1 and 4 intersection) and the Broncos and the city are pissed at each other about March of 2010. I love this city, but right now it is a 14 year old boy trying to find itself.

But we still have the best hockey fans in the world. We did an AWESOME job if hosting the ADT game. I boo'd Colten Teubert. So did all the "classless" people sitting around me. See you all in hell! Haha!

Honestly...

How about the Broncos getting the boot from the iplex

Your favorite wrestlers / finishing moves of all-time.

Best places to eat in Swift (didn't you do a survey once with best burger etc.

Broncos getting the boot: The Broncos are getting screwed. Plain and simple. Anyone who thinks that a week of curling even equals a sliver of the economics the Broncos bring to the city needs their head examined. I'm not sure what the procedure should have been, but right now someone from the city needs to hold a press conference and just say "sorry, we messed up. How can we help now?"

Don't get me wrong, the World Women's Curling Championships are great for our city and I'm proud to reside here because of it. We have a facility to be proud of that should host events like that...but not at the expense of the reason we have the nice facility.

Favorite Wrestlers/Finishers: Undertaker, the Tombstone Piledriver. The Taker is a true phenom. 6'10, blessed with the athleticism of a guy half his size and still going in his late 40's. The Tombstone was great in that it ALWAYS meant the end for his opponent, yet the Taker made it look real and, to my knowledge, never legitimately injured anyone. He needs to quit wearing mascara though...scary enough without it.

Sid Vicious, the Powerbomb. Another guy who stood 6'10. Getting lifted 6'10 in the air and being thrown hard on your back. Devastating. In his prime, who didn't love Sid? He went dumb late in his career though.

Razor Ramon, the Razor's Edge. Scott Hall, like Sid Vicious went batty and battled addictions late in his career, but in his prime he was a 6'7, 290 pound fake Mexican with gold and machismo. The Razor's Edge was innovative and devastating. I say Razor was one of the greatest wrestlers to never hold a World Heavyweight Title.

Bret Hart, the Sharpshooter. How many times did Bret Hart have a match where he was getting his ass kicked and he pulled it off in the end by subtly and quickly twisting his opponents legs together and making them tap out. When The Hart Foundation with Bret, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman, Davey Boy Smith and Jim the Anvil was representing Canada that was the best time to be a Canadian wrestling fan. As sad proof that the pro wrestling world is a brutal one, of the five men in the picture below (taken in 1997) only two men, Bret Hart (center) and Jim Neidhart (2nd from right), are still alive.

The British Bulldog made a fanny pack look bad ass!

Brian Pillman. Didn't really have a finisher, but he revolutionized wrestling in the late 90's before his untimely death. A guy who swore, spoke his mind and lived on the edge paved the way for the Stone Cold's and The Rock's and the John Cena's. What Pillman was became the norm in the industry. I remember watching him in Stampede Wrestling in Swift Current. Amazing athlete. Was injured in a motorcycle accident and fell into an abyss of painkillers that he never got out of.

Brian Pillman inside joke to Shane... ME TOO!!!! Haha!

Best places to eat? I did do a survey and people loved Extreme Pita. I didn't get a tonne of responses though on that one. Personally, I'm all about the food at the Brew Pub. Big Dave knows how to feed a hungry dude.

How do the Indians look next year? Is your wingman Joe Carnahan back to lead the Tribe to the title?

Joe should be back. Wouldn't surprise me if they did go all the way. Tough to say in November though. If they get some key imports to commit to one more year then look out!

You better bring back "cool things about Deano"

Even though he has NOTHING left to prove athletically, he works out like he is in his 20's and in the prime of his playing career. Show me another WHL GM who does that. YOU CAN'T!!!

Cool things about Deano, starring the leagues toughest GM, dean Chynoweth, written and produced by Ryan Switzer.

Switz.....how did u enjoy doin color at the bronco games this weekend. Do you miss it?

I miss it, but I believe the broadcast is in a better place where it is right now. I remember being in the scout and media room before games with former NHL players, current GMs from around the league, guys who have paid their dues in the hockey world and travel with teams and asking myself "what the hell am I doing here?"

I love the gig, and most of the best memories of my radio career involve road stories with Jonny, but all in all I'm cool with being the fill in guy.

That's all I got. Make sure and get your copies of "Green Magic" by any means necessary!

Help!

We are approaching the Christmas season, and as the Program Director of three radio stations, life gets crazy with work and other things over the next few weeks.

So the blog suffers. To the people on the street who ask me for updates (not a tonne of them, but enough)...I ask you a favor...

The big thing stopping me from updating is taking the time to come up with things to blog about. The river of creative juices is dammed up by the demands of my 40 hour week.

So, you tell me what to blog about and I will. TV? Married life? Media? Why I don't make prank calls on the radio anymore? Movies? Politics? Sex? Relationships? Questions? Swift Current? Rumors?

Nothing is off limits. Hide behind the veil of anonymity if you choose.

Now...FILL THE COMMENTS!!!

Me and the Champ

A blurry and hurried pic of me and World Curling Champion Jennifer Jones from this mornings Kidsport Breakfast. I was honored to be the MC of the event and enjoy a hearty breakfast with the Champ. She is a very good speaker and dazzling woman.

More blogging and Halloween stuff on the way...maybe.

My Motivation

I have that plaque in my office. It means a lot to me because the only plaque I've ever had has been on my teeth (rimshot!) In our company, we get plaques for every five years of service.

That plaque is my reminder that the world can be tough and not fair. If you look closely at the date you will see it is a five year company service award I got in December of 2005.

My radio career with the company started in December of 1994.

I won't bore you with my resume, but I left the company for awhile and returned in February of 2002.

To sum up, when I got that plaque in 2005, my total time with Golden West Radio was around 10 years. Because I left and then came back my records were difficult to track, but someone thought I should get SOMETHING so they hooked me up with a fiver, which I greatly appreciated.

But even though I put in a good ten years, I was still rewarded for only half of that...so with no hard feelings, I took the five with the understanding that I should put in twice the effort to get the same props as everyone.

I don't even want my ten year plaque until I've worked for 20.

Movies, both Good and ROTTEN

If you want to rent a good Nicolas Cage movie, go with the one called "Next". Nic Cage plays a Vegas magician who has the unique ability to see two minutes into the future. The FBI takes notice and cool things go from there.

Now for a bad Nic Cage movie: The Wicker Man. I can honestly say it is the WORST movie I have ever seen. Worst plot, worst acting, worst reverse ending ever! I think Edmonton Eskimo fans were more entertained by this past Saturdays 55-9 Rider win, than anyone could be by The Wicker Man.

If you've seen it and you think I'm being too hard on it, do comment. I just never thought that professional actors, professional writers and pro film film makers could all team up to get such an awful product.

Appearances

Today I READ to Grade five students at Central School in Swift Current...part of education week. I was assigned to read a Dr. Suess book...which has lots of crazy words and needs to be read in a rhythm to sound good. I NAILED IT!!! It was tough.

Expensive Clothes...

Check this out.

Game worn jerseys for sale from last year. Some gems that I'm surprised are still available.

Zack Smith, Geordie Wudrick, Cody Eakin just to name a few. Get them before DALE PERRY DOES!

More to follow...

Wind!

The Current is quite Swift these days thanks to INTENSE wind! Garbage dangles from trees and litters the streets!

I'm hoping for a big chunk of free time over the next few days to dedicate to the blog...and to you...the unfulfilled reader who keeps checking back.

Maybe it will be later today...maybe tomorrow after the kids go to bed and Heather is workin' at BP's...maybe later in the week...we'll see.

I also have 8 holiday days that I need to use before the end of the year. Any ideas on what I should do with them? Leave me a comment. If I don't plan anything, I don't take days off. Each year I find myself sitting at home in December burning up days off in boring and useless fashion.

Quick Thought for Sports Fans...

You know what's great about the NHL right now? Watch any hockey highlight show and name the player that gets the most face time in the league.

NHL poster boy Sidney Crosby?

The current NHL leading scorer? Can you even name who it is? It's Evgeni Malkin...I only know cause I just looked it up.

What about Nick Lidstrom closing in on 1000 career points? Surely that would get him some love with the NHL media.

Captain Roberto Luongo? He's gettin' some press, but not a tonne.

Watch any hockey highlight show...Sean Avery is getting more camera love than the rest of the league combined.

What does that say about the state of the league. A ten minute hockey highlight package seems to have at least 3 minutes of Avery content every time he plays.

And he hasn't scored a goal yet this year.

Oh yeah...The NHL is alive and well.

More later...

More SNL Fallout

At risk of turning this into an SNL blog...here is the latest on the Mark Wahlberg talks to animals saga (scroll down for the original SNL skit).

Thanks T!

I'm thinking this is turning into a publicity stunt for SNL and Wahlberg as he has a new movie coming out.

Sarah Palin is supposed to be on SNL this weekend too.

Blue...A Fish...A Friend. May 2007-October 2008.

A pet fish dying...Something I was going to make a comedic blog post about...complete with long eulogy and cheesy "ode to a betta fish" poem. I even snapped the above picture for comedy purposes.

I knew that fish was near the end. A year and a half old, not swimming as strong as he once did. This was coming

Scoop him out, flush him...make a big phony tribute on the blog complete with mock funeral procession.

But I didn't think my son would be as upset as he was. He found Blue motionless in his aquarium...the once vibrant royal blue he was named after...now a blueish green.

"Dad, why won't Blue move? Dad...is blue dead?"

"I don't want Blue to die" the tears welling up.

He fed him everyday...what's the deal? A life lesson, hopefully one the boy learns from...hopefully one I learn from.

Blue is buried in the yard. Not the cliche flush down the toilet.

Blue, may you find unlimited clean waters and just the right amount of food wherever you are...

Whirlwind week of Traveling

OK...what I call a whirlwind week of traveling...For the WHL voices that still read this...an average week for you.

Last Wednesday I was summoned to Estevan very last minute for some behind the scenes radio work. Estevan has many cool attractions, like a nightclub called "The Beef", people living in garden sheds due to a housing shortage, and a young population. Lots of well paying jobs in the energy sector, so in the middle of the city someone erected Saskatchewan's largest beer keg.

If you want a place to party, Estevan is it!!! Just don't expect to have a place to stay after the party...

Then on to Edmonton...

My wife's family was having a reunion. Luckily we were only a few blocks from West Edmonton Mall...and right in the middle of RONA AMBROSE COUNTRY!!!

Canadian politicians don't have the visibility of their US counterparts in this election season. Who the hell is Rona Ambrose you ask?

Some people like to compare Steve Harper to George W. If we're doing that game, then Rona Ambrose is Canada's Sarah Palin.

Not sure if her kids play hockey though...

West Ed Mall is awesome. The Waterpark, Galaxyland, the shopping, Bourbon Street, the attractions are still there and still awesome.

However, the labor shortage does affect us on many levels...

I wasn't that dirtbag that took the whole family to Hooter's under the guise of "but, honey, they have the best chicken wings..." Just snapped that pic as we walked by....to eat at BP's.

Yes, I go all the way to Edmonton in a place with hundreds of meal choices and I choose the number 1 Bronco post game hangout.

As a side note, in the "over-communicated world" it was very nice to read up on how the Broncos did over the weekend while my wife browsed the girly clothing stores. The Crack Berry came in handy as did some timely blogging.

Thanks Keener...if you still read this. :)

Marky Mark is Pissy Pissed...

I find somethings funny that most people don't. In recent memory, one of my favorite SNL skits had nothing to do with Sarah Palin or Tina Fey, but really a two minute filler the producers obviously shoved in to make the show 90 minutes. Here it is..

I guess Mark Wahlberg saw the thing and didn't like it.

Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn’t like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that’s for sure. And "Saturday Night Live" hasn’t been funny for a long time. They’ve asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don’t even know who’s on the show now.

Found that interesting. That's all.

Rock the VOTE!

A big thanks to the plethora of people on facebook who took so much time in the last few weeks to inform me how evil Stephen Harper is. Much of facebook and myspace seems to be against a conservative majority and are encouraging people to "vote smart" which seems to be a movement to vote NDP. They're getting some publicity, mostly from the CBC. Check out the website.

http://anythingbutharper.com

The graphic of someone pooping on Stephen Harper really makes me take these people seriously...

...and is one of Jack Layton's platforms giving everyone at CBC a raise? Seems like it...

Tomorrow we also find out who the host city for the 2010 Mem Cup will be. I'm more excited about that result to be honest.

Monday

Monday night blog time.

Trust the Facebook 'compare people' application for an honest assessment of yourself. Some of my near 500 Facebook friends have voted. According to it my strengths are that I am a very good singer (???) very entertaining and quite confident.

My weaknesses are that I'm not a very hard worker (radio sure ain't working the rigs!) and apparently I'm not very nice either.

...So if I die tomorrow, I would be remembered as a rude, borderline arrogant but fun guy who could sing a good tune?

I'm, not sure how I want people to think of me...but that ain't it :)

I love US politics. There are five major players in their election. John McCain, Sarah Palin, Joe Biden, Barack Obama...and Tina Fey???

Amercians weren't quite sure what to think of Sarah Palin. She was like a movie you weren't sure if you liked or disliked until you read a review and agreed with the reviewer. The CNNs and the MSNBCs had no clue what to make of her. They loved her speech at the Republican Convention, but weren't sure about her on the issues.

Perception is reality...and Tina Fey has crushed Sarah Palin's reality. Palin did a good job of not embarrassing herself in the debate with Joe Biden. The US media gave her props for a strong showing.

That all went down the toilet at 9:30pm this past Saturday.

Yes, there are hundreds of millions of people who know the issues beyond SNL...but there are hundreds of millions who don't.

Sarah Palin's people need to get her on SNL.

When did SNL get good again? That whole show this past weekend was solid!

I guess the Canadian election is next Tuesday. Some good news for the slackers like me who are reading this. Check out this copy and paste from the Elections Canada Website.

All employees who are qualified electors, that is, those who are 18 years of age or older and Canadian citizens on polling day, are entitled to three consecutive hours on polling day for the purpose of casting their ballots. If an employee’s hours of work do not allow him or her three consecutive hours to vote, the employer must allow him or her sufficient time off to allow three consecutive hours for that purpose.

You know some people will be milking that. Let's be honest, for most of the work force that means three hours away from facebook. :)

Chewsday

I heard Nickelback's newest song today. I didn't mind it...Chance Duperreault from the Breakfast Boys will hate it though. It rocks like Matchbox Twenty!!!

What is the opposite of 'love'? Not 'hate'. Indifference.

I still follow the WHL and will hit the rink whenever. When you watch hockey for five years from press boxes away from the ice surface, you lose respect for how fast a sport is and the amazing athletes these kids are. Yes, it's getting expensive to go to a WHL game, but the cost is well worth it.

For Swift to be 4-0 after two home and home series regardless of the opposition is pretty good.

Regina Pats are off to a slow start. How long til they work a six player block buster with a team out west? The Pats are waiting for chemistry...if they don't have it in the next few weeks you know a big deal is coming. Not a shot at anyone...just looking at history to make a prediction.

Michael Bishop is the man! I don't know a tonne about football, but I know most QBs would not be throwing 300+ yards to the crew of rookies that are the Rider receivers. When you're the QB, what do you do when you make a pass right on the money that hits a receiver in the ass because he wasn't paying attention? It's easy to criticize but if Bishop was throwing to Fantuz, Flick and Dominguez as well as Weston Dressler our offence would be sick! Not having Wes Cates sucks too.

Am I talking out my @$$?

Humour me for the next few paragraphs. I've always loved politics. My mom was a hardcore Progressive Conservative who didn't really push me in the direction of any party, but more the process itself. I love to talk and write about the stuff. If you haven't really been following what is up with the US election and want to get caught up, please browse through my rambling below...

or skip it...this isn't the kind of stuff I usually write about.

Here we go...

The American election is waaaay more exciting that the Canadian one. A Vietnam Vet/Former POW and a hockey mom with a knocked up daughter against a charismatic young upstart (who you can't help but notice may be the 1st black President of the US) and an old man that doesn't know what he's saying half the time.

This whole thing looked like a runaway for Barack Obama/Joe Biden a few weeks ago. The US is reeling after eight years of the worst president in their history. The son of the second worst president in their history. All looked lost for the Republicans, until they pulled an ace out of the sleeve of their expensive jacket.

A self professed "Hockey Mom" from Alaska.

That Sarah Palin move totally backfired. The Republicans brought her in as the VP candidate for John McCain cause they wanted to attract people who supported Hillary Clinton IE: WOMEN who supported Hillary.

The way I see it, you can't just pluck out a random woman and play that card. Women could relate to Hillary. An empty nester with a husband who messed around on her with a younger woman for the world to see who said, "you know what, screw it, I am going to MAKE IT IN A MAN'S WORLD!"

...and she almost did. It's empowering. She didn't win, but she sure made it close.

Sarah Palin got hand picked to be a token. Palin plays the 'everyday hockey mom' card, but the reality is people know that she is dumping the kids for several months to go run for VP.

How can everyday people relate to that?

Furthermore, if John McCain gets elected...it WILL KILL HIM! He is a 72 year old in bad health trying to get hired for the most stressful job in the world!?!?!

And if he wins...and then dies, then the hockey mom is the president!?!?! The Hockey mom who right now is sequestered away from civilization to "cram for a debate" on Thursday with Joe Biden? If she knew what she was doing, why would she have to "cram" for the debate?

BTW that debate will be a gem. The hockey mom who's comment on foreign policy is "I can see Russia from Alaska" against the crazy old "loose cannon" who speaks first and think later. (Obama has had to do some damage control a few times from Biden contrdicting him in the media)

The Americans want a change. Their economy is in the toilet, the rest of the world doesn't like them, their health care system is fodder for documentaries on how bad it is. It is to the point where they are going to elect a black man with Muslim ties to run the show just seven years after 9/11. Obama, himself is a Christian, but his middle name is 'Hussein'.

To me that's pretty cool. To me that makes our neighbours south of the border the cool neighbours again. Hopefully the new President makes it easier to go visit them.

Okay, I'm done with blogging about politics. Thanks for humouring me. Hit the comments section and tell me I should stick to light hearted stuff.

Wednesday Release

I don't know why I'm feeling stressed, but I am...weird.

This is a lunchtime quickie...a nooner if you will. Something to expel the build up of creative juices. I've got a few readers back and have been updating semi frequently and would like to continue to do so.

Did you see me in Roddy's comments section? Anytime someone has anything negative to say about Swift Current I'm gonna get on 'em. It's what I do and I can't help it. He is the same way about Regina. I respect the guy and will buy his book. No one in Swift Current has never done anything worse to him than a few guys doing a tongue in cheek chant though. All part of the show.

I've heard that someone I used to be romantically involved with reads this blog frequently.

To you I say; I know it's been a few years. I'm in much better shape physically and I don't get angry over petty crap and head games anymore. I'm still work obsessed and not as friendly as I used to be. I have something to confess. Something I did while we were together you don't know about. I used to DJ at Sliders when it was a strip club. Never sampled the goods though. Let's be honest, you would've freaked...and radio wasn't the most solid pay cheque then. I did buy you some nice stuff with my dirty money :)

Glad to have that off my chest...

My favorite memory was breaking up a dispute between two dancers who both wanted to use "I Want You" by Savage Garden in the same night.

I have successfully mooched my way into my first luxury box at a Bronco game. This Friday I will be announcing the Comp Colts Football game and then hitting one of the new i-Plex luxury suites.

Yes Grandpa, people here are still combining.

Remember my neighbours who built a garage out of my home reno refuse? The garage still stands...but because the whole scene wasn't nasty enough they added a derelict K-Car

See:

My wife is going to be heated at me for posting that. She is concerned they read the blog. I'd be surprised if they have a computer and can read. NO ONE READS THIS THING, it's all good! I can't stand my neighbours and need to vent to someone. If they have one more loud argument past midnight outside my kids bedroom window, I'm settling their little tif with a flurry of rights, lefts and Chuck Norris Roundhouse kicks!

That's all I got, but I'm in the blogging zone and will update soon...maybe

Have Mic...Will Travel

Busy week as I have been all over the place talking into any microphone that is open.

Last Friday I announced the Football game between the Comp Colts and Medicine Hat McCoy. Speaking at the Comp grad a few years ago was such an honor and so much fun, whenever the local high school asks me for a favor...I'm in.

I also spoke to the students of the Comp's SADD chapter yesterday. Today I will be doing the MC thing at the Swift Current Multicultural Celebration. Between making announcements, I'll be chillin' wit my Filipino homeboys.

Potentially busy night with the Broncos home opener and the rumours of a beer pong tournament somewhere in town.

I'm 31 and married with two kids...I'll start acting like it someday, I promise. How many people can say they were a guest speaker for SADD and then played in a beer pong tournament the same weekend?

Don't call me a hypocrite...I won't be driving home after, nor will I let anyone else...It's all good.

Why does my wife stay married to me? I must make up for these things in other ways....BOOM!!!

Broncos Buck Warriors

Not too much in depth for Bronco stuff, other blogs and fan sites have all that, and really who the hell am I anymore to talk in depth about the team? I will say that Cody Eakin is a gem. As hockey fans we owe it to ourselves to get to the rink and see a special player like this, because they don't come along everyday. He has the makings of one of those players we will reminisce about on a fan bus ten years from now.

I will also say the Bronco Internet community needs to come to a consensus on how to spell "Weise"....or is it "Wiese"?

As long as Dale spells it right on his contract, I suppose it doesn't matter.

BREAKING NEWS: SWITZER GETS OFF @$$ AND UPDATES!

Busy time of year! I won't bore you with the details of my scintillating office job, but I will say there is much to do these days and not much time for blogging. Maybe I'll update, maybe not. I wish I had more time for this though.

Enjoy the randomness...

Stop Kissing!!!

I'm tired of that "I Kissed a Girl Song". I'm tired of girls kissing girls too. It used to be hot, now it's just a ploy for attention.

I am Sirius

Add me to the list of bloggers who gush about satellite radio. I get six months of sirius with my new vehicle. Personal highlights for me include Hits 1, Stern and a hip-hop show hosted by LL Cool J SUCKA!

...and you ask, "Ryan, you're a disc jedi for regular plain Jane old school radio, isn't that like endorsing the enemy?"

...and I say, no.

Color THIS!!!

The WHL regular season starts this weekend. The Eagle did it's first broadcast this past weekend. I didn't catch it live but I'm able to dig in the station's archives to hear it.

One thing that will really add to the game experience is Tim Tisdale. I think moreso than anywhere else, it is beneficial to take your radio to the rink in Swift. Sure, you may lose style points for wearing headphones, but Tim's style really adds to the whole game experience.

Things I will miss about being the Bronco color guy include:

-media room food

-chatting with other media/play by play dudes from around the league

-making it back from Medicine Hat/Regina/Moose Jaw for last call

-media room food

-Tim Kehler...assistant coaches in general, but more recently Tim Kehler

Things I look forward to this year include:

-mooching my way into luxury boxes

-really getting to know the people who sell beer at the rink. I do live within walking distance of the i-Plex.

If I Had a Hammer...

I'm watching "Handy Manny" with my kids. It's a US based show about a hispanic carpenter/repair man with a tool box full of talking tools. They fix things. My kids see a show about a friendly carpenter with talking tools who fixes things. I see a ploy to get more hispanic kids thinking about being a tradesperson when they get older.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Once you go Black (Berry) You Never go Back

I am now a pretentious a-hole with a Black Berry. However, if I am ever talking to you in person and I hault the conversation to reply to a facebook message on the thing, kindly smother me with a pillow and tell my wife "it's what he would've wanted". Use this blog as evidence to be set free.

Hang out with your...

Worst guy at the gym to be caught in the locker room alone with? The guy who is waaaay to comfortable with his own nudity! The dude who gets out of the shower and will go start a regular conversation with you with his bird right in your visage.

So what do you think of the weather we're having?

Well it's sure cold in here...HI YO!!!

A very prominent Swift Current citizen falls into this category. I won't say who it is here. It's not who you'd guess.

When I start blogging about naked dudes, it's a sure sign to wrap this post up. Be back with more soon.

Copy and Paste Quickie

Copy and Pasted from the WHL's most credible blogger, Gregg Drinnan (gdrinnan.blogspot.com)

A tip of the cap to Steve Passmore, who doubles as the Kamloops Blazers’ goaltending coach and the assistant coach of the junior B Kamloops Storm. The former NHL goaltender also owns a piece of a downtown Kamloops restaurant, the Players Chophouse and Lounge, and that’s where he was Monday afternoon when Marijane Moses, who has moved to Kamloops from the Yukon in order to attend university, began screaming that someone had taken her purse. According to the Kamloops Daily News: Passmore “leapt over the patio railing and ran after the man, who turned into the parking lot of the Kamloops Inn with two women in pursuit. Moses said she ran west along Victoria Street, hoping to cut the robber off. Passmore said the culprit discarded the purse as he ran down an alley toward the CIBC. Moses said one of the women brought the purse back to her with all its contents accounted for. But the man wasn’t giving up — and neither was Passmore. The two men ran into the CIBC parking lot when Passmore closed the gap enough to tackle the culprit.” . . . “We hit the pavement,” Passmore told the newspaper. Passmore kept the guy in place until police showed up and arrested him. . . . By the way, the perp -- Stephen Keith Walsh, 35 -- was sentenced to four months in jail on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to theft. . . . The RCMP decided not to charge Passmore with holding; after all, this just may have been the best save of Passmore’s career.

My two cents: As you will see in the video below, grabbing someone and hanging on to them is second nature to the former big league goalie.

No need to watch the whole vid...just a lot of hangin' on! Good for Steve though.

Olympic Image

So many cool images from the 2008 Olympics. With no disrespect to a VERY jacked Michael Phelps for his iconic celebration pose after winning one of his 8 medals or Leona Lewis and Robert Plant for their Zeppelin performance during the closing ceremonies or the fireworks the Chinese are so renound for, I do feel the best picture from the Beijing olympics is below:

Back to School This Week!

You keep clicking back looking for an update, like the prisoner awaiting a visit that never happens...

Nobody reads blogs in summer anyway. When the snow flies and the outside world isn't quite as seductive...this blog will be here for ya.

But for now there are BBQ'd things to eat and cold beers to drink!

Dawg Days of WMBL

I just woke up and realized baseball in Swift Current was done for another year.

The Tribe lost game four 11-7 to Okotoks last night giving the Dawgs their 2nd consecutive league title. the Tribe hands out awards and put the wraps on another season tonight (Sunday August 17th) at 6pm at the Eagle's hall. Everyone is welcome to come eat BBQ and celebrate a good season.

It was a good season.

Some other bloggers are giving me a hard time about devoting this space to the Tribe as much as I have. The Swift Current Indians have a solid fan base in Swift. It may not be as big as WHL hockey, but the passion level is there.

...and I don't care about my number of hits. Try to find a site meter on this page.

If Rod Pedersen's site has taught me anything, if people haterize/criticize you as a bogger, you must be doing something right.

Anyway...

2008, it was a change for Indians baseball in Swift Current. The Tribe built a dynasty with key imports each year, but also had "the big four" throughout the late nineties and over the last few years.

Coach Harv Martinez, now inducted in the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.

Multi-time league MVP Joe Carnahan.

Kelly Horaska, who won every award the league offers.

Conrad Funk, the league's top center fielder who consistently hit around .400 and hit BOMBS.

All that changed in 2008.

Harv stepped down as head coach. Joe Carnahan took the job...and took himself off the field.

Real life caught up to Kelly Horaska. With a wife and two small children in California, dropping everything to play ball in Swift Current wasn't viable.

Conrad Funk reinvented himself. Instead of being an F-18 in center field he put on around 30 lbs of muscle and turned into a tank at first base.

With the foundation of the on field product rocked, still the Tribe made it to the league final. The bar was set over the last 15 years and the new team cleared it. A WMBL pennant, best winning percentage in the league, 1st and second round sweeps over some tough ball teams.

New team, same result.

It was a fun summer.

It's been emotional

Road Bloggin'

The tribe lost a hard fought game 5-2 in Okotoks last night. Once again guys like Shawn Lee and Wandy got themselves on base only to be left on after three outs.

And Okotoks is pretty good too.

Do or die tonite.

As I write this the team is en route to Calgary for an afternoon at the Chinook Center. The pressure is on me to find something nice for my wife who has been very understanding of my baseball travels this summer.

The team stayed in High River last night as Okotoks was stuffed for accomodations.

The schooners at the High River BP's are much bigger than in Swift.

They're also ten bucks...Something we didn't notice until we got the bill.

Go Tribe!!! BELIEVE!!!

An Update...Cause I'm MOTIVATED

14 innings of WMBL baseball...14!!! More on that in a few paragraphs.

Yes "The Dark Knight" was awesome...but people have to stop saying "WHY SO SERIOUS" like the Joker. It was cool when Heath Ledger did it...honor his memory by LEAVING IT TO HIM!!!

I have a Black Berry. Now I can update my blog ANYTIME, ANYWHERE. I plan on doing so from Okotoks after games three and four in the WMBL final.

The Eagle is doing the Swift Current Indians playoff road games which means a trip to Seaman Stadium in Okotoks...hands down the finest baseball facility on the prairies.

Pre-game shows with Joe Carnahan of the Tribe and AJ Fystro of the Dawgs at 6:45.

As I write this, the Tribe leads the series 1-0. Best of five. I would've loved to call the play by play for the 14 inning marathon that was game one. Just playoff road games on the radio. Think of it as a regional black out type deal.

Playoff baseball means that the team that makes the fewest mistakes loses. Not a lot of mistakes in this one.

I got work to do and bills to pay. Keep checkin' back...

The Long One...

There is an ailment a few of us at the station have noticed and named over the last few years.

SDS

It stands for "Spotlight Deficiency Syndrome". People get it when they quit or are removed from high profile positions where they got lots of media attention. Symptoms of SDS include

-Hanging around your old co-workers like you are still part of the team

-Offering obsolete advice to your successors

-Trying to get attention in any way possible

-Still acting like an expert on the subject, even though no one really wants you to be anymore

I fully intend to not catch SDS in relation to the Bronco color gig. I'll close the book on that story in my life by saying it was fun and very cool to meet the people who I did. I have some GREAT stories to tell (and some great stories that'll stay off the record for a few more years). With the new radio team of Keen and Tisdale, The Eagle in Swift Current will have the BEST WHL game coverage in the league.

Keen calls a hell of a game. Tim Tisdale notices things that NO OTHER COLOR GUY IN THE LEAGUE WILL. The Swift Current/Calgary playoff series last year was a story. The line match ups, the things happening on the ice and in the benches was a real story. Most games are. Tim Tisdale can translate that story from the ice to the radio, to your ears, better than anyone I've heard in this league. This year you will hear insight, you will hear why goals happened, what the real turning point in a game was, etc... The Bronco hockey fan is getting an upgrade in their radio show.

I met a lot of people over the years in media rooms around the dub. Feel free to keep in touch...or don't, whatever.

Onward and Upward...

The WORLD FAMOUS STREET DANCE is next weekend in Swift. The Biggest party of the year, where life in Swift ceases to make sense for a few hours on a hot Saturday night in August...and I'll be MISSING IT! Actually, I'm making the bold prediction I'll be missing it. The Eagle is following the Swift Current Indians on the road for the WMBL playoffs. Looking at the calendar, the Street Dance falls the same night as round 2, game 3 or 4 in the playoffs, which I'm hoping puts me on the road with the Tribe. It's bad in sports to look past round one, and I'm not dumpin' on Yorkton. Joe Carnahan and the Trinbe respect what Yorkton can do and knows it'll be a battle. The Tribe has played in the league final every year since 2003. Street Dance is looking unlikely for me. I'm gettin' too old for that stuff anyway!

The Dark Knight.

It kicked ass. Believe the hype. For the first time ever, the Batman/Joker story was told right. The relationship between Batman and The Joker is a cool one. Two opposites doing the same kind of thing, but approaching it from different angles. The carefree colorful Joker against the intense Batman. They both mess with people in their own way. Psychological warriors with their own unique Dad/family issues doing battle.

Christian Bale did everything he could in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Heath Ledger...you've heard it already...and it's true.

See the movie if you haven't. It's the shortest two hours and twenty minutes you'll ever spend in a theater.

Hope the long weekend is good to you. Baseball and brewskies tonight and tomorrow, roadie to Yorkton on Sunday and Monday.

Rider Pride

I'm pumped about the Riders this year. I don't know much about the ins and outs of CFL football. I am a casual fan at best who cheers somewhat passionately for the Riders. I may be talking out my @$$ in the next few lines so feel free to reel me in if I'm way off....

Yes, it's only four weeks into an 18 week season and then playoffs, but how can you not love this team?

They lost their MVP and head coach in the off season. Including last game they are 4 and 0 without key components like...

-a proven starting quarterback. Crandell got hurt.

-two of their top receivers. Flick and last week's hero Dressler on the shelf.

-a defensive line. They finished the game yesterday without Scott Schultz and John Chick.

-a coach that was born in the 1900's...But Ken Miller has done some of the best work in Mosaic Stadium by a senior citizen since Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

This team finds ways to win. You can have all the talent in the world, but unless you have a team that can get a clutch play from someone who isn't in the headlines everyday, you will not win consistently. No matter what the sport, some great teams find ways to lose and some average teams find ways to win. It's the average teams that get resourceful that hoist trophies.

The Riders have that this year.

It's great to live in the 306 these days.

A Blog Instead of a Sandwich

This is my lunch break today. Swift Current Indians utility guy Brian Strawn and pitcher Matt Braumberger live in my basement where my computer is situated...so not a lot of time on the CPU.

-My summertime fun for the last five years is going on road trips with the Indians and doing play by play. It's been great fun. It's funny how the road trip has evolved though. There has been years where an overnight trip has meant a trip to night clubs, gentleman's clubs, casinos and lounges. This last road trip had everyone early to bed so they could waterslide in the morning.

A few randoms:

-I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of The Crystal Skull at the Clearwater Drive In last night. This was nothing more than Harrison Ford, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg realizing there is HUUUUUGE dollars in nostalgia. It was the three of them mailing it in to put the wraps on a legacy and make a nice sum of cash while doing it. Harrison Ford has done better work, George Lucas has done better, and Steven Spielberg has done waaaaaaay better. Spielberg needs to remember the days where he had NO budget, three decent actors, a boat, a mechanical fish and some scary music.

-Tonite I will be hosting the annual Bachelor Auction at BP's Lounge in Swift Current. Single Swift Current Indians ball players will be up for bid. Winning bids will get dates with the players. This will get interesting...If you have a friend on the rebound, BUY HER AN INDIAN!!!

(By the way, the Swift Current Indians sit atop the WMBL with a league best 21-6 record. Not a bad start for Joe Carnahan's coaching career. Swift Current Indians legend Kelly Horaska is in town for the week. I'm looking forward to a few schooners and life lessons from "The Man They Call Horse" tonite.)

-Monday night is Zack Smith Night in Maple Creek. A night to celebrate the accomplishments of Zack's minor/junior hockey career in Southwest Sask and his 3rd round selection in the NHL entry draft. I'll be making the trip to MC the events and enjoy what I'm sure will be some good home cookin'.

-Next Friday is the Nancy Harvey/Marc Habscheid Battle of the Sports Golf Classic at the Elmwood. I'll be hosting the awards presentation...provided Marc hasn't done anything foolish like accept a job with the Regina Pats by then ;)

...and sometime through all this I'll try to squeeze in some spousal relations and parenting. My wife is the most understanding woman on the planet. I married the right woman...even though I don't act like it sometimes.

That's all I have time for. Back to the grind!

Oilers Getting Screwed in 08/09 Forecast

I love how in Canada when the weather is 30 degrees celcius, HOCKEY can still dominate the headlines.

Stuff like this is great...

If you aren't aware of why these two NHL GM's are bickering, do some google homework. Since this video was made, commish Bettman has ordered a CEASEFIRE between the two execs.

Why?

Because of what Kevin Lowe said at the 1:12 mark of that video. If anyone dare question the validity of NHL hockey in Anaheim or Florida, Gary Bettman will SILENCE you!!! Bettman is short, has a nasty case of little man syndrome and takes stuff like this personal. Brian Burke is allowed to pop off for a year on Kevin Lowe, and as soon as Lowe says one word about Anaheim being a "pathetic hockey market" the muzzle is on.

I predict at some point in the 08/09 season Edmonton will get royally screwed in some way. Kevin Lowe crossed the boss. I cheer for the Oil. Rooting for Boston has got me nowhere and the Oilers are second in my heart. Fellow Oiler fans, beware, it's coming.

Check out this video at the :30 mark for the commish's thoughts on hockey in Cali. The commish's entire Stanley Cup presentation of '06 was a promo for hockey in California.

That's all for now...When Edmonton gets the long hard shaft of the league this year, don't say I didn't warn you.

Alive

This blog is still alive and well.

Well...it's alive anyway.

Work has been crazy, billeting TWO Swift Current Indians players has had its challenges not to mention the whole 'husband and father of two' thing that keeps a guy occupied.

I still try to get the gym 5-6 times a week and make it a priority to READ an hour for every hour I work out.

A healthy body is $#!t if you don't have a healthy mind.

This has all REALLY cut in to my drinkin' time.

So...short story shorter, I will eventually give you, the loyal blog reader, a healthy update filled with content that will dazzle and enlighten you the way this blog always tries to.

But for now...back to work.

Gossip Starter

Us radio folk often check out a site devoted to the radio industry found at milkmanunlimited.com.

Here is a little sumthin, sumthin from the jobs section:

This is your opportunity to be “The Voice” of a WHL Franchise and Sports Director in a mid-sized western Canadian Market.

Minimum qualifications must include:
-5 years Sports Directory experience;
-3 years hockey “Play by Play” experience;
-Diploma/Degree in Broadcast from a recognized institution would be an asset.

Please forward your resume and references.

WHLSports@milkmanunlimited.com

This is what we call a "Blind Box" ad where we don't know who it is for. "Mid sized western Canadian market" would obviously exclude the US teams as well as Calgary, Vancouver and Edmonton. They're the big leagues.

Let the speculation begin. I'm guessing Chilliwack. They just got approved for a new station that doesn't have a name yet. The new 'Wack station would likely carry the Bruins games so they don't have to use the weather station they are on.

Our Game is Hurting

Quick update!

Check out tsn's website (tsn.ca)

Check out sportnet's (sportsnet.ca)

and while you're at it, thescore.com

How much is hockey hurting right now??? The Stanley Cup was awarded less than 16 hours ago as I type this. The websites of two of Canada's big three sports providers have little or NOTHING on the Red Wings win.

If you missed it...

Sportsnet had the big team photo of the Red Wings celebrating. Good for them!

(TSN's webpage @ 1:30pm Thursday. Look closely for any Stanley Cup Content)

TSN was all over a SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN EUROPE THAT DOESN'T START TIL SATURDAY!!! If you looked closely you would've seen a "Zetterberg and Lidstrom Lead Wings to Cup" headline down the page. Nice pic of Magic and Larry Bird. Magic is actually laughing at the fact basketball is getting more love than hockey in Canada.

The Score is all about the Jays and Yankees. ZERO on the Wings win. Good job promoting CBC's Stanley Cup coverage that ENDED LAST NIGHT!

And how about that coverage? CBC color guy Greg Millen's only contribution to the 3rd period of last night's broadcast was to nudge play by play guy Bob Cole every time he fell asleep.

I know some NHL owners and GMs really like the Gary Bettman regime. If the nation that is the most hockey crazy in the world is indifferent to the Stanley Cup results even before the team that wins it sobers up...we have a BIG problem.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I think I'm motivated enough for an update later. See you at the Indians game tonight at Mitchell field. I'll do some blogging when it's over.

And anything I could possibly do for you Regan, let me know

Sunday Bloggy Sunday

Swift Current Indians coach Joe Carnahan and I have resumed our NHL hockey on Xbox 360 rivalry. For the fourth consecutive summer, Joe's arrival in Swift Current has dropped the puck on a three and a half month long series of emotional EA sports action.

I dominated him on day one...Like any good coach he adapted to my strategy and has won several straight.

The SC Indians open the season this weekend on the road in Alberta, first home game is Monday June 2nd vs. Lethbridge.

There is a long standing rivalry between Swift and Lethbridge. The WMBL seasons tend to start slow and build in intensity as the months go on. This early matchup with Lethbridge will kickstart things nicely.

Not much else of blog substance today. I love kitties, and I know few regular readers to this blog do to. For some reason I found this video quite hilarious, so enjoy the YOUTUBE FILLER!!!

School Board

Pictured above is Central School with a sheet of plywood over a hole that was made at 2am Thursday by a pickup truck.

The driver was going the wrong way up Swift Current's 1st Avenue North West at what was obviously a very high speed when he hit the school. The lone male occupant was airlifted to Regina for medical attention earlier today.

Here's a pic from the Leader Post's website that shows the damage from the inside...

Small town excitement!!! When I took the outside photo there was a line up of at least a dozen cars slowly driving by the survey the scene. People that wanted entertainment that didn't get in to Indiana Jones I suppose.

Almost Friday!

I hate garage sales.

Random WHL Post

Much of my traffic and readership comes from other WHL bloggers who have linked to this site. Thanks very much to all the other WHL media folks with blogs who have chosen not to big league my deep dark crevice of the web. If you're ever in Swift Current, YOU CALL ME AND WE'LL GO DRINKING!

Two things WHL peeps are talking about. The show of dominance by The Spokane Chiefs at the Mem cup and the $#!T show in Portland.

I know play by play dude Andy Kemper does a Winter Hawk blog, so if I'm off base with anything, keep me in check Andy.

There have been rumours all year long about the Winter Hawk organization going cheapo on equipment and not ordering players new sticks and such. RUMOURS. Enough rumours for the WHL to do an audit on the Winter Hawks. They where actually supposed to have finished the audit on May 14th, but I can't find anywhere on the web with the results. I'm guessing the league found something out of order and aren't exactly in a hurry to trumpet their findings. The WHL loves their positive PR and they aren't going to get much out of Portland these days.

I guess this is the point where I say I'm doing this on my own, and my views don't reflect that of the WHL organization I did color for or anyone I work with. If you're going to complain, my e-mail addy is at the bottom of this post. I know it doesn't look like anything to get worked up over, but some people look for an excuse to complain.

The Winter Hawks president, Jack Donovan has said that once they get new computer software they will be able to keep better tabs on their finances. They are assuming the worst and blaming THE COMPUTER!!!

All this and their ex-coach is suing them too. Mike Williamson is taking the organization to court for breach of contract. He was let go prior to this season and Portland finishing 11-58-2-1

There is a light at the end of the tunnel as former Hawks like Brendan Morrow and Marion Hossa are rumoured to be buying the team. One thing I have learned about pro-hockey players is they generally are VERY smart with their money.

UPDATE SINCE I FIRST POSTED THIS: Commish, Ron Robison has stated the audit by KPMG is still not over yet, and they'll announce results soon. READ GREGG DRINNAN MORE SWITZER!!!

There...now I feel justified to be linked on all those other WHL blogs.

Who are these people?

Pop culture can be tough to keep up with. Some people just can't be involved in conversations on the subject because they have no idea who celebrities are and how they got famous. You see stars on the cover of magazines while you wait in line at Wal-Mart and it befuddles you why they have the notoriety to grace the cover of "People" and "Us Weekly". Here are some celebs you may hear about and some facts that will help you keep up in conversations about pop culture.

Pete Wentz

Who is he? The mascara wearing bass player/lyricist for the pop rock group "Fall Out Boy".

Why is he a big deal in pop culture? This past weekend he married singer Ashlee Simpson who is famous for lip synching and being the sister of Jessica Simpson.

Fun Fact about Pete that will make you look smarter: He tried to kill himself in 2005.

Joel and Benji Madden

Who are they? Mascara wearing brothers who make up 1/2 of the pop rock group "Good Charlotte".

Why are they big deals in pop culture? Because of their famous girlfriends. Joel is the significant other of Nicole Richie and baby daddy of her offspring. Benji is dating Paris Hilton. No home movies yet.

Is there something about dudes in mascara that makes them irresistible to famous and wealthy women?

The Cast of The Hills

Who are they? Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port, the stars of the reality series "The Hills" (a spin-off of Laguna Beach. This show documents the life of Lauren and her friends after leaving Laguna Beach.)

Why are they big deals in Pop Culture? Lots of people watch the show and the girls are good looking and naive. The same kind of fame as Jessica Simpson enjoyed during The Newlyweds.

Nick Cannon

Who is he? All purpose entertainer. TV host, actor, rapper, record producer and comedian.

Why is he big in pop culture? Out of nowhere he married Mariah Carey a couple weeks ago. He's 28, she's 37. He's probably bringing a few bucks to the equation, but she's a GAZILLIONAIRE and there was NO PRENUP!!!

John Mayer

Who is he? Singer/songwriter/guitarist who has had a steady stream of hit songs in the last five years. Heralded as one of the world's best guitar players.

Why is he a big deal in pop culture? He is dating Jennifer Aniston. Mayer has been accused of dating women for the sole purpose of upping his profile. He dated Jessica Simpson.

Fun fact about John Mayer that will make you look smarter: Rumour has it Mayer tips off paparrazzi as to his eventual whereabouts with his famous girlfriends. Jennifer Aniston's ex Vince Vaughn has accused him of this.

Adnan Ghalib

Who is he? A paparrazzi photographer.

That's it!?!?! Why is he a big deal in pop culture? Because he briefly dated Britney Spears. They where together long enough to make a VIDEO TAPE OF A NIGHT OF PASSIONATE LOVE MAKING which Adnan is now rumoured to be looking for a buyer/distributor for. 'nuff said.

-----------------------------------------------------------

If that's true about John Mayer, the man is a genius! If that's true about Adnan Ghalib is he a genius or scumbag?

Who is this man?/The Ultimate Blog Post!!!

CAUTION: This is a long winded post. Blog fodder is tough to come by these days. Blogs aren't getting updated as much, people are threatening to pull the plug...it's hard out here for a blogger right now. Here we go with a WRESTLING POST!!!

So, who is this?

You likely don't recognize the man pictured above. He was very famous in the late 80's and through the 90's.

He looked more like this...

Anyone who has known me for a long time knows that I USED TO BE the biggest wrestling fan in the world. I could tell you every gimmick every wrestler has ever used in any wrestling promotion/alliance/federation ever! Even in high school if given the choice between having sex and watching wrestling...I COULD NOT MISS MONDAY NIGHT RAW!!!

Times have changed.

I don't watch anymore...check that...I watch every now and then and that convinces me to not watch anymore.

I watched Smackdown last night.

The legendary Undertaker had a match against three other guys and the widow of Eddy Guerrero (who was in a wheelchair).

Seriously, that was the match. The Undertaker against three able bodied athlete's and a woman in her 40's who had some sort of injury that forced her to use a wheelchair. The Undertakers goal was to incapacitate the three other dudes, so he could have a chance to beat up the woman (the widow of the late Eddy Guerrero) who was already injured.

And The Undertaker was the "good guy"?!?!?!? The crowd wanted and cheered for him to attack a defenceless woman. Thousands of people thought it would be cool to see a 6'10 guy wearing mascara beat up a chubby widow.

So I changed the channel.

My point...and I do have one goes back to the man pictured above, the Ultimate Warrior. He is making a comeback. It is not finalized yet, but in wrestling..where there is smoke there is fire and the rumours are flying. The Warrior is likely returning to televised wrestling. Not WWE, but their competitor TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling. You know, the show with the six sided ring on Spike TV after CSI reruns and before the UFC show. First he will make his in ring return in Spain (a non-televised show for "the scouts" which will test how ready he is for a TV return, and then the comeback will be planned accordingly).

So what has the Warrior been doing in the meantime? Like all of us egotistic superstars who think they are geniuses, he has a blog (ultimatewarrior.com). He writes about things like Heath Ledger's death being a good thing?!?!?! (he calls Heath "Leather Ledger", and also takes a shot a Hulk Hogan)

Apparently, Leather Hedger had sleeping troubles and anxiety and dealt with terrible mood swings. So do soldiers but they don’t self-destructively f*** up their lives. In fact, they don’t sleep, handle anxiety and mood swings while dealing with whether or not they might at any moment lose their life. And they do this all the while they are dangerously protecting the freedom of others to f*** up their own. By the way, how many 28 (or older or younger) year old soldiers met their death yesterday? It’s not easy to find out. None of them made the headlines of any news.

By today’s standard, though, I do have to agree that he was a great father. Perhaps even greater then the father of the year, Hulk Hogan. After all, Leather Hedger did what it took to kill himself. His kid is without a father, yes, but the negative influence is now removed and his own child has the chance for a full recovery. Hogan, on the other hand, won’t go quite that far. He insists on sticking around to keep further ruining, and profiting off of, the parentally mismanaged lives of his own children.

It is sad and tragic….that we don’t demand attention be paid to greater things.

He does have a point on the soldier thing...In can case you haven't figured it out, Warrior hangs out on the RIGHT side of the fence.

He also has his thoughts on homosexuals (note the sixty second video you are about to see does not reflect the views of this blogger.)

There is a better chance of him getting hurt public speaking, then there is of him getting injured while wrestling. Good career move.

I watched the Warrior live at the Regina Agridome when I was 12. He is now pushing 50. I enjoyed the Rolling Stones, KISS, Clint Eastwood movies well past his "Good Bad and Ugly prime, why can't the Warrior still kick ass in his 50's. If he can pull it off, it will make the few grey hair I'm getting a lot less noticeable in the mirror.

I hope it works out for him

Pictured is my daughter and I at Oman School. This photo will embarrass her someday as I look like a creep

Lunch Date

The kindergarten classes at Oman School put on a lunchtime performance today. My daughter Eliza was among the performers . "Tony Chesnut Knows I Love You" and "Dickie Dinosaur" where among the selections parents where treated to. Great job by all involved.

More later...Sorry for how self centered this blog has become.

Actually, I'm not that sorry at all...but mass appeal stuff is on the way.

On the way

Plans for the long weekend include:

-A trip to the dump

-Maybe a beer or two with friends

-maybe a stop at the Big Eye to see Dick MacInnis

-a sunburn

-chasing my kids around

-not gettin' any (and really that doesn't bug me any more...Just on special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries is fine with me...perhaps a funeral for my libido is in order)

-a blog update.

Speaking of Dick MacInnis, he's got some concert footage on youtube. I love this song...and so do the ladies by the looks of it.

Dick wrote it...it's a gem.

Sunday, Bloggy Sunday Mom's Day

Today for Mother's Day Brunch we hit the Sundowner Cafe in Swift Current's Pioneer Coop. For people who love brunch and want to try something different, the buffet gets a five star rating.

You will be fed!

For people visiting this blog from Regina that claim they never visit this blog, let me describe the setting. It's really not unlike Brewster's except at the Sundowner there are no young attractive servers, omelet bars, big screen TVs, lounges or any elbow room.

Okay, so it's nothing like Brewster's.

Delicious Meat. The fewer vegetables in a brunch the better!

While the setting may lack the standard decor which has become the norm for today's restaurants, the Sundowner is old school. No gimmicks, fancy pictures or big screens.

This sign is mounted outside the bathroom should people be unsure of how to get back to the cafeteria. I'm sure there is an interesting story behind why this sign is necessary

Good brunch. Good company, and unlike the last time I went, NO ONE complained about the Trading Post program on CKSW 570. The Sundowner is officially into the restaurant rotation.

Like Making Sense/Cents

A lot of people read this blog who are former residents of Swift Current. Other visitors are people who have been to Swift but haven't seen it in awhile. Here are some pics I snapped today at some new things in the city limits.

Construction continues on the Living Sky Casino. The Teepee theme is becoming visible. When finished, 11 lights on the roof will illuminate the sky giving a bright teepee visible for miles. It will also give Swift Current the coolest looking teepee on the prairies. Take THAT Medicine Hat!!! TAKE IT!!!

The New sign along highway four just east of the Credit Union i-Plex. FYI, First Swift Current Indians Broadcast will be June 7th in Regina on the Eagle 94-1. At least SOMEONE from the radio media will be there... :)

Oh don't get all mad! All in good fun...Just harmless poking from "Booger Boy"

Mom's Day

Lots of great songs on the subject of Mom. To those of you who are fortunate enough to spend time with your mom today, breakfast in bed, chores, cards all that are great and mom appreciates that stuff. Make sure and just do something. Life is nuts, but even if it's just a phone call make sure you do something.

Come to think of it...you should do that as much as you can, not just on a Sunday in May.

This blog is my therapy for some things I still haven't reconciled in my life. Thanks for bearing with me.
